artist statement

i was in spain visiting a friend.  the manual film camera i had learned to use decided to stop working.   the idea of no pictures for the rest of the trip was out of the question.  that was the day I realized i was addicted to photography.  i bought a throw away camera . . . or two.

i think my love of photography comes from expectations.  while shooting I am in the present moment.  i see something that strikes me, i attempt to capture it and bring it with me.  i’m not thinking about my future, my past, my list of “to do”.  i have no expectations for myself or anyone else at that moment.

i strive to bring a small sense of places and moments to people on a daily basis through photos.  ideally i hope to plant seeds in the viewers.  the seeds of curiosity, exploration, being alive.  a desire to travel to beautiful places and experience them firsthand.  live for the moment.  enjoy the now.  do things that we’re told we’re “too old” for.  smile when we’re happy.

thank you for taking a moment to look at my artwork.

i hope all is wonderful  :)
