a few miles outside of silverton is the road leading to the start of this trail.   if you're lucky enough
to head off with one of the locals, there is a route that starts 1/2 way up the normal route.   this
would have been helpful.   on this day we did not make it to the upper basin due to thunderstorms.
it was my next trip out that i learned the short cut.
